| GENERAL INFO FOR WORKERS: |
| FIRST AID CERTIFICATE (COMPULSORY): |
It was agreed by QLA Management Committee that all Personal Support Workers who are not family members will need to hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate. It is compulsory that all Personal Support Workers have a current Senior First Aid Certificate and/or updated CPR at all times. |

| MANUAL HANDLING TRAINING (COMPULSORY): |
| Manual Handling needs to be updated every three years and whilst some workers may have had training some time ago, it may need to be updated. For more information and venues to undertake this training please contact Elaine Dornan at QLA on 07 5443 9777. |
| FAMILY MEMBERS: |
| If a family member does not carry out manual handling for a Service User but provides other care, QLA would ask you to forward a letter stating this for our records. |
| CERTIFICATE IV IN DISABILITY WORK: |
It is not a mandatory requirement for people working in the disability sector to have the Certificate IV until advised otherwise by DSQ. |
| The current position of DSQ (Disability Services Queensland) is “that for people being paid under the Disability Support Workers Award (DSW) it is encouraged but not enforced”. |
At the present time all QLA workers are paid under the Disability Support Workers Award, but please note that different criteria may apply under the SACS (Social and Community Services Award). At this stage we do not envisage changing to this Award. |
| Note that workers that have a Certificate IV in Disability Work are paid at a higher rate of pay. |
|
WHAT TO DO IF YOU'VE BEEN INJURED AT WORK: |
If you have been injured at work you must notify QLA within 24hours of your accident. We will then provide you with a WorkCover Application Form for compensation if you are not able to work while you've been injured. |
| INCIDENT REPORTS: |
| It is crucial that all Consumer related issues and incidents are reported to QLA using an Incident Report, which is available for download on this page. |
| NON URGENT AMBULANCE NUMBER |
| Support Workers can call the non urgent ambulance number on 131 233 if they are stuck in a difficult situation (e.g. - if you can’t use the hoist because it’s broken or if the Service User has had a fall). If it is an emergency always call 000. |
